Talk about civic duty.

A groom was spotted at a Bedok polling station on May 3 still dressed in his full Sikh wedding attire after rushing back from his wedding in Johor Bahru to cast his vote.

Stomper Amit shared a photo and video of the moment with Stomp, saying: "That's my nephew!"

The groom had just gotten married across the border earlier that day, but despite the tight schedule and ongoing wedding rituals, the family made sure to head back to Singapore in time for the polls.

"We all went to his wedding in JB, and after the wedding, we had to rush back to vote," said Amit.

"His wedding had been planned since January, and we didn't know the elections were coming up until after we had booked the dates.

"It was too late to change anything because invitations had already been sent out."

The unexpected clash of dates led the family to dub the celebration 'The Election Wedding'.

According to Amit, the family left JB at 3.24pm and reached Singapore around 5.20pm.

The groom made it to the polling station at Block 153 Bedok North Avenue 4 Pavilion at around 6.20pm.

"There was no time to change," Amit explained.

"We all just rushed to vote, even the groom, because we still had some rituals to do at home."

"I'm staying at Hougang, but my nephew, who is my sister's son, lives at Bedok," he added with a laugh.

"We will never forget this wedding!"
