Girl, 12, molested in Hougang supermarket, 36-year-old man arrested within 7 hours
A 12-year-old girl was molested in a supermarket at Hougang Street 21 on June 25.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs, the police managed to establish the identity of the 36-year-old suspect and arrested him within seven hours of the report.
He is expected to be charged on Sept 23 with one count of outrage of modesty against a person below 14 years of age.
Eight other men will also be charged on the same day in separate cases of molestation or outrage of modesty.
One of them, 33, allegedly molested an eight-year-old girl on June 12 and was arrested on June 18. Further investigations revealed that he had allegedly molested the same girl on another occasion.
He will be charged with four counts of outrage of modesty against a person below 14 years of age.
In another case, a 67-year-old man allegedly molested a 15-year-old girl at the lift lobby of a residential block on April 11 and was arrested on April 13.
He also allegedly used criminal force on the teen at the same location in January 2025.
He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty and one count of criminal force.
A 61-year-old man was also arrested for molesting a 36-year-old woman at the loading bay of a supermarket at Tanglin Halt Road on June 25.
He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty, which carries an imprisonment term up to three years, a fine, caning or any combination of such punishments.
But outrage of modesty of a person below 14 years of age carries an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, a fine, caning or any combination of such punishments.
The offence of criminal force carries an imprisonment term up to three months, a fine up to $1,500 or both.
