A loanshark harassment case led the police to arresting a man found with drugs, a knuckle duster and a replica gun.

The police were alerted on Feb 5 at about 10.10am after the main gate and door of a flat in Geylang Bahru were splashed with pink paint.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of a 47-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman and arrested them on Feb 6.

The man was subsequently found to be in possession of a knuckle duster and a replica gun without a licence.

He was also found in possession of substances believed to be controlled drugs.

Investigations against the man are ongoing for drug-related offences, possessing a replica gun without license, and possessing a scheduled weapon.

The offence of possessing a replica gun without license carries an imprisonment term up to three years and a fine not exceeding $5,000 for every such gun.

Possession of a scheduled weapon carries an imprisonment term of up to five years and caning with not less than six strokes.

The duo was to be charged in court on Feb 8 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
