Gate of Tiong Bahru flat secured with bicycle lock, man arrested for loanshark harassment

A 30-year-old man was arrested on March 20 for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment in Tiong Bahru.
The police were alerted on March 17 at about 11.15pm to the case at Jalan Membina, where the gate of the flat was secured with a bicycle lock.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him.
A bicycle lock was seized as case exhibit.

The man was charged in court on March 22 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
