Some of life's biggest mysteries: the Loch Ness monster, Area 51 and the cheese in McDonald's Filet-o-Fish burger.

In fact, all three subjects have sparked numerous Reddit threads over the years.

Stomper Dan was surprised to find that the three Filet-o-Fish burgers he bought from McDonald's Tampines Greenview outlet on Feb 2 each had only half a slice of cheese.

He said: "Has inflation caused food prices to increase and ingredients to be lesser?"

This is not the first time customers have expressed disappointment in the half of slice of cheese, with one Stomper sharing similar feedback in August 2022.

However, this is how the Filet-o-Fish burger has been since 1961.

A McDonald's Singapore spokesman told Stomp in 2022: "Our best loved Filet-O-Fish has always been served with a half-slice of melted cheese and our Double Filet-O-Fish uses a single slice of cheese."

According to online sources, this is to prevent the cheese from overwhelming the burger's taste.

When informed about this, Stomper Dan said: "Oh sorry, I didn't know that. But it's quite sad because even if you go to Burger King or KFC and add cheese to your burgers, it will always be a full slice. No way will it be half a slice.

"So if we customise our burger and add an extra slice of cheese, is it going to be half a slice or a full slice?"
