Five men, aged between 58 and 75, are being investigated for their suspected involvement in illegal public gaming.

This is the same area where void deck gamblers were previously blamed for a rat infestation.

The police said officers from Bedok Police Division conducted enforcement operations in the area on May 7.

During the operation, gambling paraphernalia and $229 in cash were seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

This comes just weeks after residents at Aljunied Crescent raised concerns about a rat infestation, which some blamed on food being left behind by groups gambling at the void deck of blocks 97, 98, 99, 101 and 112.

Under Section 20(3) of the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone found gambling with another person in a public place can be fined up to $10,000, jailed for up to six months, or both.

"The police take a serious stance against any person involved in illegal gambling activities," they said, adding that they will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in such activities.

Members of the public are reminded to steer clear of illegal gambling.

Those seeking help for gambling addiction can contact the National Council on Problem Gambling at 1800-6-668-668.
