FB user selling 'official' NDP tickets for $25 each, Stomper asks: 'Should I report it to police?'
A Facebook user is purportedly offering tickets to the Aug 9 National Day Parade for $25 each.
Stomper Richpoh8800 alerted Stomp to the post in the SG PCN Cyclsit Facebook group on Aug 4, in which the user said he had four physical tickets for sale.
The post stated: "These are official tickets for the Padang event zone - perfect if you want to soak up the celebration up close."
Richpoh8800 told Stomp: "Many citizens were not successful in balloting for NDP 2025 tickets, but this guy is trying to sell tickets online. Is it illegal? Should I report it to the police?"
NDP tickets are not for sale, but are instead distributed for free via a balloting system on Singpass. Any NDP tickets obtained from unauthorised channels will be rendered void and those holding such tickets will be denied entry to the venue.
Re-selling of the tickets is strictly prohibited, the NDP executive committee has said. Action will be taken against those caught scalping or using the tickets for fraudulent purposes.
"If you see tickets being sold online, it is likely a scam," the committee said in a Facebook post.
There have been at least five cases of scams involving the sale of NDP 2025 tickets since July 1, with total losses amounting to about $250, according to a police advisory.
Members of the public are encouraged to verify the legitimacy of any sales listing before making any transactions, and to report suspicious cases promptly.
