Family bring pet dog with them for dinner at hawker centre: 'It's inconsiderate and unhygienic'
A man was concerned when he saw a family bringing their pet dog to a hawker centre for dinner on Jan 21.
Stomper Roy shared photos of the dog lying next to a table on the second floor of Margaret Drive Hawker Centre in Queenstown.
"More and more people are bringing pet dogs into hawker centre," he said.
"This is very inconsiderate and unhygienic.
"This family is sitting in front of the dessert stall and the row behind consists of Muslim stalls.
"I recall that pets are not allowed in hawker centres but I cannot find any nearby signs that indicate this.
"I think the National Environment Agency (NEA) should reinstate those signs."
According to the Singapore Food Agency, live animals such as pets are not permitted into food establishments, with the exception of pet cafes.
However, guide dogs are allowed in eateries. They can be identified by their harness sleeve, which may carry messages like "Guide Dog at Work" and "Do Not Distract". Guide dogs help the blind or visually impaired travel independently and safely.
Last July, a couple were called 'unreasonable' for letting their pet maltipoo sit with them for breakfast at the Bukit Ho Swee hawker centre in Tiong Bahru.
