Fake Mindef, SAF purchase orders used in 3 new cases of suspected bulk order scam
The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has been alerted to three new cases of suspected fraudulent bulk orders made by individuals claiming to be from the ministry and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
The cases involved the use of falsified procurement orders purportedly from Mindef or SAF, said the ministry in a social media post on Sept 23.
Mindef also shared a copy of a fake three-page procurement order, which had the logos of the ministry and SAF.
Dated Sept 18, it was a purchase order for "event catering" and was signed by a "Staff Sergeant Mr Tan Boon Siong", the purported "manager of procurement office".
"We urge the public and all businesses to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police," said Mindef in the post.
A total of six people have been arrested for their suspected involvement in fake bulk order scams involving the impersonation of SAF personnel.
On Sept 14, Mindef said in a Facebook post that it was aware of seven such cases, none of which involved actual SAF personnel.
