NParks responds to Bukit Panjang resident who wanted 'justice and kindness' for trapped crows

Original article:

Crows and other birds were seen trapped in an enclosure at Block 401 Fajar Road.

Stomper Maddy, who lives in the area, saw the enclosure on June 23 at about 8.30am.

According to the Stomper, the trap held crows and small birds which had been there for several days.

In a video shared with Stomp, Maddy can be heard saying: "It's raining now, and the poor birds are all inside."

A bowl of water and a pile of food can be seen on the ground in the enclosure.

Maddy said: "It's been raining and the birds have been suffering for the past week. The National Parks Board (NParks) will bring them somewhere after. I don't know where, but I just hope NParks is not harming them."

She believes that birds "have a right to live in this world," and coexist with humans.

In a follow-up message, Maddy informed Stomp that the enclosure had been removed.

"I hope Stomp can bring justice and kindness to these birds," the Stomper said.

NParks' group director of wildlife management, Mr How Choon Beng, previously told The Straits Times: "NParks adopts a holistic and science-based approach to managing pest bird species... (and) conducts studies to understand the ecology of the birds, such as their roosting patterns and movements."

NParks received an average of almost 7,000 cases of crow-related feedback annually from 2023 to 2024.

Stomp has contacted Mastermark, a wildlife management company, and NParks for more information.

For those who wish to report any crow-related issues, contact NParks' Animal and Veterinary Service at 1800 476 1600, or through their online feedback form at https://www.avs.gov.sg/feedback.
