A bird was seen pecking at a container of fruit in FairPrice Geylang Lorong 38 on July 22.

Stomper Chong sent Stomp footage of the incident, which occurred at about 8.45am.

In the video, a Javan myna can be seen standing on a stack of containers with grapes, taking bites out of the fruit through small gaps in the packaging.

"I believe seeing such a scene can be common," Chong told Stomp. "Is there any real strict food or fruit safety in supermarkets or stalls in Singapore?

"As consumers, we may not know if the items we buy are actually safe to consume, or if they've been tampered with."

In response to a Stomp query, a FairPrice Group spokesperson said: "FairPrice Group takes food safety and hygiene with the utmost seriousness and is committed to upholding the highest standards across all our stores.

"This is an isolated incident and we are working closely with the affected store to strengthen preventive measures and ensure such occurrences do not happen again."
