Excavator catches fire while gardeners plant trees near Capricorn Drive
An excavator caught fire in a grass field near Capricorn Drive on June 26.
Stomper Philip, who lives next to the site, alerted Stomp to the fire.
"The gardeners were ordered to clear all forest edges and footpaths to plant trees," he said.
"I was not working on the site, but I heard the loud sound of fire engines approaching.
"All the gardeners stopped their work. They have been working here since June 25."
According to Philip, the fire broke out after the excavator's engine overheated and burst into flames.
"The excavator engine was very hot and exploded into a large fire," he explained.
"The gardeners could not control the fire. They feared the fire would spread into the thick forest and burn all the giant trees.
"So, they called for help. Large crowds who were exercising saw the firefighters in action."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed it was alerted to the fire at about 5.45pm.
The fire involved an excavator.
SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet.
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
