LTA engineer shouts, hits worker's helmet with driver's licence for not wearing seat belt
A video of an engineer working for the Land Transport Authority (LTA) berating a worker for not wearing his seat belt has gone viral.
A number of Stompers alerted Stomp to the video.
Stomper MF said the incident happened at the Changi East Depot construction site, where he works, at Tanah Merah Coast Road on Aug 22.
In the video, the engineer can be seen speaking to two workers and asking one of them for his driver's licence.
As he shouted at the worker, the engineer hit the worker's safety helmet with a card, presumably the worker's licence. The engineer then angrily threw the card on the ground.
"No need to talk to him like that," said the Stomper. "They come here to help Singapore build all the buildings. If no foreign workers, Singapore wouldn't be Singapore.
"Okay, the worker was at fault for not wearing his seat belt. But you don't need to take his license and whack his helmet or throw it on the ground. Can talk. They are low-salary workers.
"If this LTA officer were to talk to a Singaporean like this, maybe kena whacked already."
LTA posted on Facebook on the morning of Aug 25: "We are aware of an incident involving one of our engineers and contractor's staff.
"While the engineer was addressing safety lapses at the worksite, the manner in which he did so was inappropriate. We do not condone such behaviour.
"The engineer has also been counselled and reminded of the standards of conduct expected of all staff. He has expressed regret for his actions and has apologised to the staff involved."
LTA added: "We take this matter seriously and will continue to reinforce the need for respectful and professional behaviour when upholding safety standards."
