Duo allegedly tie up 38-year-old woman, steal her gold, phones and $2k in cash at Jalan Besar
Two men, aged 22 and 27, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a case of robbery with hurt at Jalan Besar.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the incident on April 26 at about 9pm.
A 38-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and tied up by the duo, who then purportedly robbed her of two mobile phones, a wallet, a gold chain, a pair of gold earrings, and about $2,000 in cash.
The victim sustained minor injuries while the suspects fled the scene.
Officers from Central Police Division identified the suspects through follow-up investigations and with the aid of Police cameras and CCTVs.
Both men were arrested within four hours of the report being made, and all of the victim's belongings were recovered.
The two suspects will be charged in court on April 28 with robbery with hurt.
If convicted, they face between five and 20 years' jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
The police stressed that they will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend offenders and deal with them firmly.
Members of the public who encounter such incidents are advised to remain calm, observe and take note of the perpetrator's physical appearance and distinctive features, and call the police as soon as possible.
