The police are investigating an accident involving a Singapore Prison Service (SPS) vehicle and a private car in Simei on Oct 8.

SPS said in a Facebook post on Oct 9 that the accident had taken place along Simei Street 3 a day earlier, around 9.20am.

The Prisons vehicle was transporting inmates and escorting officers from the Changi Prison Complex to the Changi General Hospital (CGH) for the inmates' medical appointments, said SPS.

About 400m away from CGH, the right side of the vehicle made impact with the left side of the car travelling on the next lane.

A video of the accident, posted on Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, shows an item being flung onto the road as a result of the impact. The item landed near a taxi travelling in front of the car involved in the accident.

SPS said that the staff member behind the wheel of its vehicle did not stop and continued driving towards CGH.

It added: "This is not in accordance with SPS's standard operating procedure, which requires the vehicle to stop and assess for any damages and injuries after an accident.

"We regret that our staff in the SPS vehicle failed to stop the vehicle after the accident."

SPS said it has contacted the private car driver involved and lodged a police report soon after the accident, adding that "it will cooperate fully with the police on the investigations".

In response to queries, the police confirmed that a report was made, and that investigations are ongoing.
