A ComfortDelGro taxi driver was caught on video smoking inside his vehicle at Mandai Road on Sept 27 at about 11.34am.

Stomper Ong, who witnessed the incident, said he saw the driver lighting up and putting his arm out of the window to flick ash off his cigarette.

He shared a video of the incident with Stomp, adding that he has seen similar behaviour from taxi drivers on a 'daily basis'.

"Comfort, as the biggest taxi operator, needs to lead by example and send a strong message to their drivers," he said.

"Imagine the next passenger boarding the taxi with the heavy cigarette smell.

"Totally unacceptable for such practice in today's Singapore."

In response to a Stomp query, a ComfortDelGro spokesperson said: "Smoking in taxis is strictly prohibited under Singapore law.

"Our cabbies are expected to comply with this regulation at all times to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for all passengers.

"We take such matters seriously and encourage members of the public to report any incidents directly to us so that appropriate follow-up action can be taken."
