Diner wonders how mee campur came up to an 'exorbitant' $9.90 at Novena eatery
Can you do the math?
A diner was left confused and upset by how his meal ended up costing much more than expected.
Stomper Benjamin visited Sutha's Cafe, an eatery located at Royal Square in Novena, on Nov 11 at around 4.50pm.
He recounted: "I ordered a plate of mee campur (mee mixed with bee hoon goreng) and added a sunny side up, with no vegetables, and asked for it to be extra spicy. There was no meat and no upsize. My dish came with just mee with bee hoon and a sunny side up."
Benjamin was charged $9.90 for the dish, including $4 for the supposed customisations.
He said: "Additional $1 for adding mee (which I did not add). Additional $1 for adding bee hoon (which I did not add). Additional $1 for adding chilli (never encountered this before nor did they inform beforehand. Additional $1 for egg.
"However, no additional clarification was made that I had to pay extra when I was placing the order."
Benjamin also ordered a $3 drink and his total bill came up to $14.10 after service charge.
"I did not take any photos of my food as it was only after I had my meal then I realised that the price was off," he told Stomp. "I clarified with the server and he showed me the receipt."
The Stomper wonders why he had to pay extra for mixing mee with bee hoon when "it was supposed to be by default".
He was even more puzzled to find the eatery's menu in a March 2025 online post, with "noodles mix goreng" priced at $5. Mee goreng and bee hoon goreng are also $5 on the same menu.

Benjamin said: "I just want to let other patrons be aware of this. They are charging exorbitantly for a plate of mee/bee hoon goreng. Avoid at all costs!"
