Diner warns Toa Payoh residents and workers about 'unreasonable' pricing at mixed rice stall
A diner felt that he was unreasonably charged by a mixed rice stall at Block 128 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
Stomper Shearer said he paid $6.20 for a plate of rice with one meat and two vegetables. He shared a photo of his meal, which consisted of chicken, broccoli and cabbage with white rice.
Describing his meal as "pricey for what you get", Shearer told Stomp on May 19: "There were no special items and nothing premium. Furthermore, I wasn't told the cost until after payment.
"For a coffee shop stall that is not even near the MRT station, this felt overpriced, especially when similar meals in Toa Payoh usually go for $4.50 - $5.
"I understand prices are going up, but there should still be some consistency and transparency.
"I'm sharing this review to warn fellow Toa Payoh residents and office workers: check prices before ordering. Food quality was all right, but the pricing is unreasonable."
Are there really no premium items in Shearer's meal though?
Broccoli is typically more expensive at economy rice stalls. He might also have been charged more for that juicy piece of chicken thigh.
