Diner says chicken rice at Upper Thomson eatery 'nothing to cluck about' -- unlike its rude service
A diner patronised a popular restaurant along Upper Thomson Road but found it not up to expectations or the hype.
Stomper ieat ishoot icomplain said she visited Chicken House on Dec 25 at 5.30pm to give its much raved-about kampong chicken a try.
"However, I totally regretted my decision," she told Stomp.
"The first thing I noticed in the eatery was the gigantic houseflies buzzing around, which I have reported to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
"They also got my order wrong. I ordered two plates of chicken thighs for $6.50 each, but I was served chicken ribs as shown in the photos. Was the oversight accidental or intentional on Chicken House's part?
"However, what ruined my dining experience was not the food nor the winged insects hovering around me, but the bespectacled lady sitting at the counter. She was extremely rude, not only to me but to every other diner there.
"At first, I thought that maybe she was just having a bad day. But upon looking up Google reviews, I discovered that at least 50 other customers had complained about similar rude, abusive, and arrogant behaviour exhibited by the plump, short-haired and bespectacled counter aunty, lending credibility to what I observed.
"Someone even took a photograph of her, alleging that she hurled vulgarities at him."
Chicken House at Upper Thomson Road has a 4.0 rating on Google reviews.
Many reviewers praised the food, but the bulk of negative reviews seems to stem from the eatery's service standards rather than its chicken rice.

Even a customer who enjoyed the food deducted a star from his review due to an employee's "bad tone and attitude."
The Stomper added: "Hawkers must understand that regardless of how nice their food products taste, mutual respect has to be shown to the customers who are actually the ones paying.
"Additionally, a successful dining experience depends not only on the food but also on the attitude of the staff. If the staff are perpetually emitting negative energy, the food automatically tastes unpleasant when a hot surge of anger rises in the throat, making it hard to swallow.
"Moving forward, I hope SFA can request errant F&B staff to go for customer service training courses, allowing these unprofessional workers to upskill if a substantial number of similar complaints are received."
"All in all, the entire meal was a great disappointment. There is really nothing special about Chicken House's kampong chicken to cluck about."
