Diner feels misled after being charged extra 20 cents for pulut hitam pie in McDonald's set meal
A customer who visited the McDonald's outlet at Khatib says he was disappointed to be charged extra for an item he believed was already included in a promotional set meal.
Stomper V told Stomp that he visited the outlet on July 24 and ordered the Chilli Crab Sauce Prawn Burger Feast set meal, which was advertised at $12.40.
Based on the image, it appeared to include a drink, burger, fries, and a pulut hitam pie.
"I decided to try it, and I even chose another drink and paid extra for that, which was reasonable," said the Stomper.
"But when I selected the set at the self-service machine, it forced me to top up 20 cents to switch from an apple pie to the pulut hitam pie. I thought the pulut hitam pie was already part of the $12.40 meal as advertised."
He checked with a staff member and was told that the $12.40 set includes an apple pie by default and customers need to top up 20 cents to get the pulut hitam pie.
The Stomper said he felt misled.
"To me, this is deceiving and disappointing," he said. "If 10,000 of these meals were sold a day, that's $2,000 in extra charges or $60,000 in a month.
"I hope McDonald's will clearly state what's included in the meal price and not mislead consumers into thinking the pulut hitam pie is already part of the set and then having to pay extra."
McDonald's has declined to comment when contacted by Stomp.
In a separate incident, Stomper Char shared that she was similarly 'misled' after realising she needed to pay an extra 75 cents for an OREO McFlurry, which she believed was included in a two-piece Chicken McCrispy meal deal on McDonald's app.

On the app, there is a promotional photo showing two pieces of Chicken McCrispy, a drink, fries, and an OREO McFlurry. It also states the deal is 'from $10'.
Under the terms and conditions, McDonald's states, "visuals are for illustration purposes".
