Diner charged $7.80 for vegetarian food at Yishun stall -- and it doesn't even resemble pic

A diner was charged $7.80 for a plate of vegetarian nasi lemak at Block 239 Yishun Ring Road.

Not only does that seem pricier than usual for a coffee shop meal, his food also appeared to be missing a couple of ingredients.

Sharing his experience in a Facebook post on Jan 29, Jayden Coolman noted that his meal did not come with a fried egg as shown in the stall's signboard.

He said: "When I asked the staff about it, they simply replied, 'Oh no have... no have...'"

There was also a noticeable lack of cucumbers.

Netizens sympathised with the diner, with one saying that the stall should have replaced the egg with something else if they had run out.

Another claimed: "Vegetarian food sellers are making use of people's goodwill."

His sentiments echo those of Stomper Ang, who recently complained about paying $6.50 for what he felt was a "small portion" of vegetarian food at Queen Street.

Ang felt that the unfair pricing was going against the values of vegetarianism and said: "The vegetarian spirit and food is supposed to be economic and help less fortunate people to fill their hunger.

"Instead, this stall has taken people's kindness for granted and made such high profits from Singapore citizens by charging sky-high prices."

His post drew mixed reactions online, with many Stomp readers pointing out that stall owners have to pay rental and labour costs regardless of what food they are selling.
