A food delivery rider fell off his e-bike after a near-collision with a car in Punggol on Sept 5.

Stomper Ng, who is the rider, was wearing a body cam and shared a video of the incident that took place at Compassvale Drive near the Compassvale Road junction just after 4pm.

The rider had just made a right turn from Compassvale Road into Compassvale Drive at the junction. A red Suzuki Swift was coming from the opposite direction and turning into Compassvale Drive as well.

"I noticed a red car turning left towards me," recounted the Stomper.

"I sounded my horn to signal my approach, but the driver of the red car did not stop and continued turning out. I had to emergency brake and fell off my e-bike.

"Luckily, I wasn't injured by some miracle as I was forced off my e-bike when it skidded. I actually landed on my two feet and stumbled a few steps before regaining my footing.

"My e-bike overturned and was lying flat on the ground. It was slightly damaged and I could not continued food delivery.

"The driver of the red car did not even stop to help or check on me. I think the driver committed an offence and just drove off. It was a serious thing and the police must look into it."

The rider has since made a police report.

He said: "I felt very angry because the driver was very irresponsible. He should not have a license to drive. He was probably not paying attention when making the turn and caused me to emergency brake and fall. Yet he just left as though nothing happened."

In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

"The authorities must punish such drivers," said the Stomper. "I see such drivers on the road daily.

"I think Singapore roads are getting from bad to worse. Maybe it's the stress of making a living these days. It's really high because of what's going on in the world."

The rider was also angry because the accident could have killed someone, he added.

"I am fortunate because I always try to be careful on the road. My e-bike brakes are good hydraulic brakes and my tyres are in good condition," said the Stomper.

"I cannot imagine what would've happened if I were another e-bike rider who was older and had normal brakes on his e-bike. He would have crashed into the turning car, probably sustaining serious injuries as a result."
