Deceived diner gives Bishan stall a second chance -- and 9.5 out of 10 stars for service recovery
To err is human and sometimes all we need is a second chance.
A diner returned to a coffee shop stall at Block 511 Bishan Street 13 in hopes that they would make things right – and they did.
Stomper ieat ishoot icomplain previously told Stomp that she felt deceived by JB Tai Pai Tong Seafood at Kim San Leng Food Centre as the stall's menu differed greatly from what she was served.
She said: "Instead of getting a bowl of soup with pork, corn, carrot, potato and onion as shown in the photo, I was served a pathetic bowl of hot brown water with nothing else in the bowl!
"Substituting the generous portion of tasty vegetables shown in that deceiving offer was, in reality, a horrible plate of three leaves of lettuce topped with oyster sauce."
Has this stall gone too far with false advertising? Posted by Stomp on Thursday 19 December 2024
The Stomper returned to the stall almost a week later on Dec 23, at around 2.30pm.
"I genuinely wanted to give the stall a chance to make things right," she explained.
"I returned to the same outlet to purchase a plate of hor fun, along with attempting to recover my bowl of soup and plate of vegetables that I had paid for last week. This is something I needed to do. We cannot simply walk away from a foul play."
Cindy said the stall's staff were aware about her previous complaint, adding: "I politely explained to them that I'd complained because buyers generally cannot accept unfair transactions, especially when the actual products differ greatly from advertisements and are not of the reasonable value that customers have paid for."
Her latest experience with the stall turned out to be a much better one.
Cindy told Stomp: "This time round, things were different. I was served a BIG bowl of watercress soup and a plate of overflowing lettuce, all of which were acceptable.
"At first, the staff members seemed extremely furious, glaring in my direction.
"However, towards the end of my lunch, the supervisor sincerely apologised for the blunder of his staff. He even returned my payment and told me the plate of hor fun was on the house. I insisted on paying for my own meal, but he refused to collect my payment.
"He also informed me that he would improve the service, and ensure that the quantity and quality of the food being served will be reasonable in future.
"Through my moniker 'ieat ishoot icomplain', I honestly want to give every F&B business an opportunity to improve itself and fix a mistake, be it intentional or unintentional. This way, everyone in Singapore can have a better dining experience.
To be fair, I believe we should give this stall a chance. I also hope its service, quantity and quality will really improve, and everybody will be happy.
"I give&n JB Tai Pai Tong Seafood a recovery rating of 9.5/10 and I will continue to patronise the business establishment."
