This was probably not what the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) had in mind when it approved insects for consumption.

An insect was found in the chicken leg set from a Woodlands restaurant on July 22.

A Stomper shared photos of the dead bug amid the half-eaten food in a takeaway container.

"I bought the nasi lemak from Yassin Kampung in Kampung Admiralty and while eating it halfway, I found a cockroach in the sambal," said the Stomper, who also shared a photo of the receipt.

According to the receipt, the chicken leg set was priced at $8.50.

The Stomper added: "I've been calling the hotline and no one is picking up the phone."

Stomp has contacted Yassin Kampung for more info.

In response to a Stomp query, the SFA said it is investigating the matter.

It added: "While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.

"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices."
