Damaged sewage pipe causes waste water to rain down on Ang Mo Kio void deck
Residents at Block 588A Ang Mo Kio Street 52 had a crappy day on July 10 when waste water came pouring out of a damaged sewage pipe.
Stomper CC shared photos and videos of the incident, which he said started in the afternoon.
He told Stomp on July 11, at 6.35pm: "A cap came off the sewage pipe, causing shit and urine to come pouring out. It was raining down on the bicycles parked underneath and all over the entire void deck.
"It has been 24 hours. It is super unhygienic as residents are stepping on sewage and carrying waste into homes."
CC said the pipe was fixed at around midnight on July 11.
In response to a Stomp query, Ang Mo Kio Town Council said it was alerted to the damaged sewage pipe at the block on July 10, "resulting in an unfortunate released of waste water".
The town council added: "Upon notification, we took swift action to barricade the affected area to ensure the safety of residents.
"Our conservancy workers were promptly deployed to clean and sanitise the area, and the pipe was fixed on July 11.
"We are actively working to prevent such incidents in the future through increased awareness and education. Notices will be distributed to inform residents about proper waste disposal in toilet bowls and floor traps."
The town council also said it will continue to closely monitor the issue and work with the Housing & Development Board (HDB) to improve the pipe design to ensure the well-being of residents.
According to the Stomper, workers were "washing up" the area on July 12.
