A 42-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound while cycling with friends in a forested area near Upper Seletar Reservoir on June 15.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the incident at about 11.55pm by the National University Hospital (NUH), where the man had sought treatment.

A bullet slug was found lodged in his lower back and later removed during surgery.

He is currently in stable condition and his injuries are not life-threatening.

The man had been cycling with his friends in a restricted forested area between Upper Seletar Reservoir and Upper Peirce Reservoir at around 11.40am when he was injured.

His friends brought him to the hospital.

"The public is not allowed to access that particular area, which has signage warning against unauthorised entry into a live-firing area," the police said.

Preliminary investigations found that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) had been conducting a live-firing activity at Nee Soon Range, about 2.3km away, at the time of the incident.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said the SAF is working closely with the police and relevant authorities to investigate the incident.

"As a precautionary measure, live-firing activities at the Nee Soon 500m Range have been suspended," Mindef said.

Mindef also reminded the public that under the Military Manoeuvres Act, unauthorised persons are strictly prohibited from entering gazetted live-firing areas.

Police investigations are ongoing and foul play is not suspected at this stage.
