A McDonald's customer was "shocked" to see that his Filet-o-Fish burger came with only half a slice of cheese.

Stomper Ronald McCrappy said: "Too long never order this. Shocked to see mine has only half of a sliced cheese. How long has it been like this?"

The answer? Very long.

Since 1961, to be exact.

The McDonald's website states in its FAQ section: "Who knew, right? Of course, you can always ask for 'extra' cheese the next time you order a tasty Filet-O-Fish® at your local McDonald's. It's the 21st Century, after all."

According to online sources, this is to prevent the cheese from overwhelming the burger's taste.

This is not the first time a Stomper has sent in feedback about the cheese in McDonald's Filet-o-Fish burger.

A McDonald's Singapore spokesperson told Stomp in 2022: "Our best loved Filet-O-Fish has always been served with a half-slice of melted cheese and our Double Filet-O-Fish uses a single slice of cheese."
