What started as a run-of-the-mill dating app match quickly turned into a late-night barrage of messages that left one woman feeling uneasy.

Stomper Lilia matched with Dexter, who is supposedly a personal trainer and pageant finalist, on the Coffee Meets Bagel dating app on Jan 15. She told Stomp that it turned out to be a "weird" and "suspicious" experience for her.

"Dexter looked like a clean and normal guy," shared Lilia.

According to her, his profile indicated he was looking for partners. However, during their conversations on the dating app, Dexter told Lilia that he was actually seeking friendship.

Things took a turn when the pair moved their conversation to the Telegram app.

"He suddenly went crazy," Lilia told Stomp.

Screenshots of their Telegram conversation showed Dexter asking Lilia to "meet and talk now" at 1.04am.

"I beg you, just once," pleaded Dexter, who persisted in asking Lilia what he needed to do in order for her to agree to meet him and assuring her that he could drive over immediately.

The Stomper said she found this odd as men usually request breakfast, lunch or dinner dates instead of 1am meetups.

Throughout their interactions, Lilia continued to reject him by saying that she had "things to do" and did not want to meet him. She also called him a "crazy nut head guy" and threatened to report him to the police.

"Wtf? What is wrong with you," Dexter replied.

In response, Lilia argued that nobody would meet at 1am, but Dexter said: "Yes we do."

Lilia told Stomp she has since broken off contact with Dexter. She blocked him on Telegram and deleted his profile from her Coffee Meets Bagel app.

While she considered Dexter's behaviour "red flags", she did not report him to the app or lodge a police report. However, she hopes that Dexter can "stop asking young ladies to meet up".

In response to Stomp's queries, a spokesperson for Coffee Meets Bagel said the platform takes a zero-tolerance, ban-first approach to violations of community guidelines, and offending users will be removed from the platform.

"The app includes built-in safety features such as 'Hide or Report', which allow users to unmatch and flag suspicious behaviour quickly; and opening message moderation, introduced to further reduce rude or vulgar language and ensure a safer, more respectful dating experience," the spokesperson added.

"We are also investing heavily in AI detection, stronger verification (including our recently launched Singpass verification feature), and dedicated human review teams. These initiatives and tools are part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safer, more respectful dating environment for everyone."
