A food container in a plastic bag was dropped on the floor and leaked across the upper deck of an SBS Transit bus on June 17.

Stomper Alex, who boarded the bus at 6.40am at Hougang Central Interchange, was appalled by the condition of the bus.

"There were spilled noodles leaking all over the floor and used tissues left on several seats. The entire interior was in a disgusting state," said the Stomper.

A video shared by the Stomper shows the soup from the container trickling out of the bag towards the front of the bus while a crumpled piece of tissue was on the seat in front of him.

"What makes this especially concerning is that this bus had just departed from the interchange, where SBS Transit claims their buses are cleaned twice daily," said the Stomper.

"As a paying commuter, I shouldn't be forced to ride in such filth - especially not first thing in the morning.

"I've already submitted a complaint directly to SBS Transit, but I strongly feel the public deserves to be aware of this kind of negligence."

In response to a Stomp query, SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said: "We are sorry that the bus did not meet our usual standards of cleanliness on this occasion. We have since reinforced the importance of cleanliness with our staff to prevent a recurrence.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to seek the cooperation of our passengers to help keep our buses clean by not eating, drinking or littering on board to contribute to a pleasant ride for all."
