The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has warned of a fake CNB officer requesting money via WhatsApp.

The Straits Times reports that in a CNB statement on Wednesday (June 22), the bureau said that there have been incidents of a person or people impersonating a CNB officer and messaging people via WhatsApp.

The "officer" claims that the victim has "cases with CNB" and attempts to ask for money.

The CNB will be working with the police to investigate.

"CNB would like to advise the public that CNB officers are not allowed to request for any favours in money or in kind," it  said.

Neither are officers allowed to threaten anyone for money to "facilitate a case".

Anyone who suspects that they have been a victim of such an attempt can contact the CNB on 1800-325-6666 or e-mail CNB_Feedback@cnb.gov.sg .
