Clementi stall operator apologises, takes corrective actions after Stomp report about cockroach in cai fan
An F&B operator has apologised after a diner found a cockroach in her meal from one of its outlets in Clementi.
Stomper Yvonne and her son had found the insect in their plate of economy rice from the coffee shop stall at Block 420A Clementi Avenue 1 on July 31.
Yvonne informed staff at the stall about the incident, but was dissatisfied with how they responded.
The F&B operator, which has multiple economy rice stalls islandwide, shared the measures it has since taken.
They told Stomp in an Aug 8 statement: "We sincerely apologise for the recent food hygiene issue that occurred at our Clementi outlet. We extend our deepest apologies to affected customers.
"Food safety is our top priority. Upon learning of the incident, we immediately followed up with enhancement and corrective actions."
According to the company, they have:
- Conducted a thorough hygiene inspection and internal audit at the affected outlet
- Enforced strict cleaning SOPs, including weekly deep cleaning
- Installed dust protection on all food ingredients and storage containers
- Launched an internal investigation to identify the root cause and prevent recurrence
The company will also be taking the following steps to further improve hygiene management:
- Strengthening hygiene SOP standards across all outlets
- Increasing inspection frequency and implementing surprise checks
- Enhancing protection measures to prevent foreign object contamination
- Implementing a daily hygiene log system
- Upgrading cleaning standards and execution procedures
The statement added: "Once again, we offer our sincere apologies and assure all customers that we are committed to making improvements and safeguarding your trust and dining safety."
Yvonne had earlier reported the incident to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), who told Stomp that it had inspected the food establishment and will be taking enforcement actions for the non-compliance found.
SFA did not elaborate on what the non-compliance was, but said: "The food operator was reminded to ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained and their food handlers adhere to good food safety practices."
