'Chilling photos' from the 'coldest village on Earth' where temperatures can reach −71.2°C
Singaporeans who constantly complain about the weather will find that they actually have a lot to be thankful for after checking out Oymyakon in Russia.
According to Bored Panda, the place earned the title 'coldest village on Earth' for its extremely low temperature.
The lowest reading ever recorded was −71.2°C in 1924. The average temperature in January is -50°C, making one wonder how exactly do villagers survive in this harsh conditions.
To answer that question, New Zealand-based photographer Amos Chapple made a trip to the village to document how life is like.
The photographer recalls that the hardest thing was not the cold itself, but that his camera’s focus and zoom rings would occasionally freeze in place.
