CCK station 'unfriendly' for elderly, wheelchair users transferring from MRT to LRT: Stomper

The Choa Chu Kang MRT station is an interchange where commuters can transfer from the North-South Line to the Bukit Panjang LRT system.

The MRT platform is connected directly to the LRT via stairs and then an escalator.

But as Stomper Lam pointed out: "There is no lift connecting the MRT and LRT. The only connection is by staircases.

"This is inconvenient for all commuters and extremely unfriendly for the elderly and people in wheelchairs."

Stomp visited the Choa Chu Kang station and spoke to a station staff member about how a wheelchair user would transfer from the MRT to the LRT.

While there is no lift that connects the MRT and LRT directly, it is still possible to make the transfer without using the stairs.

Commuters can take the lift from the MRT platform to the ground floor, tap out of the MRT station and tap in again many metres away at the LRT station, where a lift is available to take you to the LRT platform.

To demonstrate, Stomp took videos comparing the two routes from the MRT to the LRT.

You will not be charged again for tapping in at the LRT station as long as you do so within 15 minutes of tapping out from the MRT station.

Should more be done to improve accessibility?
