Caterers Yun Hai Yao and Pu Tien suspended after 130 fell ill eating their food, 17 hospitalised
The food business operations of Yun Hai Yao in Northpoint City and Pu Tien Services at Senoko South Road have been suspended with effect from July 31 until further notice, according to a joint statement by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Ministry of Health (MOH).
This follows an incident of gastroenteritis affecting a total of 130 individuals who had eaten food supplied by the two caterers to ByteDance's office at One Raffles Quay the day before. Bytedance is the parent company of popular video platform TikTok.
Seventeen people were hospitalised and are currently stable. The rest have sought outpatient treatment, self-medicated or recovered without treatment.
SFA and MOH are investigating.
Yun Hai Yao owns the Yun Nans restaurant chain while Pu Tien Services is the central kitchen of Putien.
The two suspended businesses are required to clean and sanitise the premises, including equipment and utensils, and dispose all ready-to-eat food and perishable food items.
All food handlers working in the premises are required to re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1 and test negative for foodborne pathogens, before they can resume work as food handlers.
The appointed food hygiene officer working at the premises must re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 3 before he or she can resume work as a food hygiene officer.
