Caterer fined $8k and suspended for multiple food safety lapses, including pest infestation
A local caterer was fined $8,000 for multiple food safety lapses.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) detected the lapses after inspecting 365 Food Service Pte Ltd's central kitchen premises located at 239 Pandan Loop in June 2024.
The lapses include pest infestation, poor housekeeping and maintenance, improper food storage, food preparation outside, and unauthorised alterations to the kitchen's layout.
In photos provided by SFA, dirty freezers and cockroaches were found on the premises.
In the interest of public health, SFA directed the licensee to suspend their operations between June 7, 2024 and July 15, 2024 to rectify the lapses and take the necessary measures to improve the cleanliness of its premises.
"Food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain," SFA said.
"While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part."
All food establishments must ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained, as well as adhere to proper food hygiene and food safety requirements.
SFA added that it will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Sale of Food Act.
Offenders may face a fine of up to $5,000 upon conviction, and if the offence continues, an additional fine of up to $100 for each day or part of a day the offence persists after conviction.
Food safety is a joint responsibility.
Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices or illegal activities in food establishments are advised not to patronise them and provide feedback via SFA's online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for their follow-up investigations.
