Caterer downgraded 15 months after food poisoning incident involving 24 people, cockroaches found
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) lowered a caterer's food hygiene grade to C 15 months after a food poisoning incident involving 24 people.
They were reported with gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Amici Events And Catering on Oct 28, 2023. No one was hospitalised.
Describing itself as a "luxury boutique Singapore catering company who takes on our events with a passionate heart and a spirit of excellence", Amici is located at 5 Senoko Road.
A joint investigation conducted by the Ministry of Health and SFA on Oct 31, 2023, uncovered several hygiene lapses, such as cockroach infestation as well as damaged and stained rubber gaskets of the caterer's chillers.
SFA will be taking enforcement actions against the company for these lapses.
In the meantime, the agency adjusted the Amici's food hygiene grade from B to C with effect from Jan 17, 2025, to be reviewed in 12 months.
The premises will also be kept under surveillance.
The agency said: " Food operators are reminded to adhere to good food safety processes.
"Good hygiene practices such as the washing of hands before handling food can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public."
