Cat owner upset at $179 pet grooming session: 'My cat literally screamed in pain'
A cat owner has taken to social media to voice her anger and disappointment after her pet appeared to be in distress during a grooming session on May 27.
She shared that she had taken her cat, Marshmallow, to be groomed at Furries Inc, a grooming salon located in Clementi.
Marsh Irsfzrh said in her Facebook post: "I've been sending all my cats here for years and today is my last time going here.
"I'm super speechless. Just look at the video.
"Is this how you treat a cat?
"And the audacity to blame my cat for your lunch that got delayed?
"That's not right at all. My poor cat…"
She included videos of the session in her post, with one of them captioned: "$179 for this kind of service? My cat literally scream[ed] in pain."
The clip shows a cat meowing loudly while one groomer is shaving its fur. Another groomer helps to hold the cat down.
Marsh said Marshmallow was traumatised by the experience.
In response, Furries Inc posted a series of comments defending the groomers' actions.
They said the videos had been taken out of context and were sent to the owner as part of their transparency policy.
They explained that Marshmallow had come in with 'badly matted fur' and rashes underneath, which made the grooming process uncomfortable.
They added that Marshmallow was 'fierce'.
"The groomer is merely holding on to the cat's paw and moving with the cat's kicking," a spokesperson said.
"There is no forceful movement."
They added that the cat's discomfort was due to the removal of matted fur, not rough handling.
They also shared that Marshmallow was in a 'malnourished' condition, which made grooming more delicate. They said they had advised the owner on these conditions.
They broke down the $179 bill, which included:
- Bear Cut Package: $99
- Badly matted fur removal: $30
- Fierce cat fee: $50
- Free medicated bath and antibacterial spray
In another comment, Furries Inc said:
"We ourselves own cats and do not condone any abuse or hurting pets in any way whatsoever.
"We seek fairness and understanding."
When Stomp contacted Marsh for her response to the groomer's explanation, she said:
"If they think they are right, I will let the video do the talking.
"I'm here to spread awareness.
"I can't bear to see other cats getting treated this way.
"It shows a lot about them and how they replied to others' bad experiences instead of compensating or providing service recovery on the issue."
