Car at Tuas Checkpoint found with over $394,000 worth of drugs, M'sian arrested

A 37-year-old Malaysian man was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs in a car at Tuas Checkpoint on the morning of Sept 20.

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority officers had directed the Malaysian-registered car for enhanced checks and found in the rear boot panel two black bundles suspected to contain controlled drugs.

Central Narcotics Bureau officers were immediately alerted and subsequently conducted further checks, uncovering an additional six black bundles hidden in various compartments of the car.

A total of about 1,908g of heroin, 1,655g of cannabis and 268g of Ice were seized from the car. The drugs have an estimated worth of more than $394,000.

Those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine or pure heroin, more than 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.

Investigations are ongoing.
