A family had a close brush with danger when a car ran a red light along Punggol North Avenue on June 30.

Dashcam footage of the incident, which occurred at 1.49pm, was shared on Facebook by SG Road Vigilante.

Stomper Lee and Lau Lau alerted Stomp to the post.

In the video, a woman and two children are seen about to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing.

Just as they begin to step forward, the woman abruptly stops in her tracks and stretches her arms out to hold the children back.

Moments later, a red Mitsubishi Attrage can be seen speeding through the red light, driving past the pedestrians without slowing down.

The woman then shakes her head and gestures in frustration as she carefully continues crossing the road with her children.

Netizens praised the woman for her quick reflexes and vigilance.

"The mother did an excellent job by being vigilant. She saved the lives of her two kids," one commenter wrote. "Having the right of way doesn't mean that it's safe. This driver should be heavily penalised."

Another added: "That was really a close call due to the mum's vigilance. It's a good lesson for the kids so they know they must always look out before crossing! Report the driver please. Not only did he run the light, he was driving fast."
