Burning car in Sims Drive carpark near James Cook University sends black smoke into night sky

A car caught fire in the carpark at Sims Drive on Saturday night (July 15).

Stomper KC shared a photo taken from afar showing a pillar of smoke in the middle of a housing estate.

"Fire and thick black smoke spotted near James Cook University. Sirens can be heard in the distance," said the Stomper.

Videos posted online show a car in flames.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at the open carpark of Block 44 Sims Drive at about 9.45pm.

The fire, involving the engine compartment of a car, was extinguished by firefighters using two water jets.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
