Bukit Panjang 'smoking and beer corner': How town council will address resident's non-compliance

Original article:

The deadline was Oct 6.

But the "smoking and beer corner" furniture remains even though it is past the deadline given by the town council for the set-up to be removed.

After Stomper W shared photos of a table, chairs and a patio umbrella set up on the ground floor of Block 473 Segar Road, Stomp reported on Sept 23 that Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council "advised the resident to remove the setup at the common areas by Oct 6".

A town council spokesperson told Stomp on Sept 20 that it had engaged the resident and was stepping up public education against illegal fixtures and common area clutter to promote neighbourliness.

"The town council would also like to reiterate that the safety of our residents remains as our topmost priority," said the spokesperson.

"Most importantly, we would like to appeal to all residents for their mutual help, in maintaining a clear and safe pathway at the common areas. Clear passageways and communal paths are essential and critical routes especially in times of emergencies."

On Oct 17, the Stomper shared photos taken a day earlier showing the table and chairs moved to the side under a shelter but still cluttering the common area along with a makeshift laundry rack under the patio umbrella.

He said only the fencing and the painting of seven horses were removed.
