Residents of Block 502 Jelapang Road were jolted awake by loud explosions after a fire broke out in the early hours of Sept 4.

Stomper Vivian, a resident in the area, said she was woken up around 5am.

"I was woken up by a loud sound, like something exploded," she said.

"A few more loud explosions came from outside my window and I saw there was a fire on the ground."

"Two police officers were called to the scene and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived later."

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 5am.

"The fire involved contents of a rubbish bin on the ground floor," an SCDF spokesperson said.

"SCDF extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher," it said.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
