Buangkok bee invasion: Resident says hives on top of her block are size of 5-room flat
One of the Buangkok residents whose area was invaded by bees on July 14 said the bee hives are the size of a five-room HDB flat.
Stomper Steth, who lives at Block 984D Buangkok Link, shared a video taken from her flat showing countless bees congregating on the rooftop of her block.
"I found hives as big as the size of my home," said the Stomper. "Later, the town council also confirmed it was like the size of a five-room flat."
The insects were seen flying outside the window as well in the corridors and lifts, added the Stomper, who shared a video of her neighbours waiting in the lift lobby.
"All trapped downstairs as the bees were in both lifts," she said.
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Ang Mo Kio Town Council said it received feedback about the bees on the night of July 14.
"We swiftly activated our pest control team that same night to investigate. The team confirmed that the presence of bees was due to the migration of Malayan honey bees," said the spokesperson.
"On the morning of July 15, our pest control team successfully located the beehive on the rooftop of Block 984D Buangkok Link.
"To ensure the safety of our residents, we conducted the first treatment that same morning and followed up with a second treatment later that afternoon."
The Stomper shared a sceenshot of an e-mail from the town council that said the bees were exterminated.
The e-mail added: "A follow-up visit was conducted on July 16 at 9am to ensure complete elimination. Our conservancy worker has thoroughly cleared the site of all dead bees.
"We are committed to preventing future infestations and ensuring a safe and comfortable living environment for all residents. We will maintain close monitoring of the area and conduct regular site inspections to prevent new bee hives from forming."
