British man, 32, arrested for $2,900 'theft spree' at Changi Airport
A 32-year-old male British national was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of shop thefts at Changi Airport.
On April 15 at about 9.43pm, the police were alerted to a case of shop theft at The Shilla Duty Free Shop in the transit area of a Changi Airport terminal.
The retail supervisor had noticed a bottle of perfume missing from the shop's shelf while taking stock of their inventory.
CCTV footage showed the man entering the retail shop where he allegedly took a bottle of perfume and left without paying.
Upon further investigation, the police established the identity of the man and arrested him.
The man is believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases involving items such as perfumes, cosmetics, wine, confectionery and a wallet, amounting to more
than $2,900.
The man will be charged in court on May 7 with eight counts of theft in dwelling.
If found guilty, he may be jailed up to seven years, fined or both for each count.
The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases. Offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
The police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter shop theft offences.
