Bright green snake shocks couple on morning walk at Gillman Barracks
A couple was on a morning walk at Gillman Barracks when they spotted a bright green snake in a tree.
Stomper Parvathy saw what appears to be an oriental whip snake at about 8.15am on July 7, and believes it is the same snake she reported to Stomp in May 2025.
"It was a scary experience," Parvathy told Stomp. "This time we found it on the parallel road in Gillman Barracks."
According to the National Parks Board (NParks)'s website, oriental whip snakes are a native species that can be found in forests, parks and gardens.
Though they are mildly venomous, the snakes are not usually aggressive.
If you encounter a snake in public, NParks advises you to:
- Stay calm and back away slowly, giving it space to retreat.
- Not approach or attempt to handle the snake but leave it as it is, especially if it is in its natural habitat.
- Call NParks on 1800-476-1600 if you need help.
- Keep your pets on a tight leash as they might chase after the snake and frighten it.
