A woman has raised concerns about overcrowding and crowd control at Marina Bay during the National Day Parade (NDP) preview show on July 12.

The Stomper told Stomp she was in the area with others to watch the fireworks and soak in the atmosphere when the situation turned chaotic at about 8pm.

"There was horrible crowd control," she said.

"There was a bottleneck and only a single file path through a hedge for people to get out.

According to a map she shared with Stomp, several areas were blocked off, forcing the crowd to squeeze through a narrow exit marked by a blue arrow.

"There were many children around. It was quite scary, we were really worried someone would get crushed."

The Stomper said some people in the crowd attempted to climb over a barrier to exit, but were stopped by an F&B eatery's staff who called for the police.

"We were forced back into the crowd and ended up stuck there for about 30 minutes," she said.

Stomp understands the police are on-site during NDP preview shows to regulate crowd flow. No criminal offence occurred on July 12.

Based on her experience, the Stomper wants to warn those, especially with young kids, against going down to watch the fireworks: "I would definitely like to alert those with young children to the dangers."
