Black particles in filtered water from Novita pitcher: Is it safe to drink?
A man was pouring water out of a pitcher when he noticed small black particles in it.
His wife, Stomper Ang, usually decants the water straight from the 3.7-litre Novita HydroPure NP120 water pitcher into a water bottle, but this time, he poured the water into a white cup.
She said: "There were small black particles after pouring the filtered water. We have been drinking it for quite some time, and we normally pour the water into water bottles so we never realised it."
The couple immediately contacted Novita.
"There are many water filters and pitchers on the market. It might be causing health issues for the public," said the Stomper.
In response to a Stomp query, a Novita spokesperson said: "Based on the description provided, we believe the black particles observed are carbon dust.
"Carbon is a commonly used and completely harmless material in water filtration, essential for the purification process. Our filters are equipped with a fine mesh to prevent larger carbon particles from passing through.
"However, in this particular case, it appears that some fine carbon granules managed to bypass the mesh and were dispensed with the filtered water.
"We've since contacted the customer and addressed his concerns accordingly."
