Residents of Bishan block proudly fly Singapore flag for National Day -- nearly double last year's numbers
Residents of Bishan are showing their patriotic spirit this National Day by proudly displaying the Singapore flag outside their homes.
Stomper KG shared photos of the colourful display at Block 219 and Block 218 Bishan Street 23, where many units have put up the flag ahead of the nation's 60th birthday.
"This was not done by the RC (Residents' Committee) or RN (Residents' Network), but proudly by the residents themselves," said KG.
The residents flying the flag include not just Singapore citizens, but also new citizens from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, he added.
Block 219 is the same block whose residents have previously rallied together to deck out their shared space for Chinese New Year over the last four years.
KG said 30 out of 72 units at Block 219 were flying the flag -- about 42 per cent of the block.
Over at Block 218, six out of 14 units were doing the same.

"This is a big jump from last year, when 22 units at Block 219 displayed the flag," said KG.
"Some residents who displayed the flag this year are first-timers.
"An 86-year-old resident put up the flag for the first time in his 35 years of living at Block 219!
"Both he and his wife were smiling and proud when I assisted them to tie the flag.
"Another new citizen resident was out of the country for a month, but straightaway displayed the flag after coming back.
"It makes our day, supporting Singapore."
However, KG said he was "a bit disappointed" that free flags were not distributed as in previous years.
"The community club or People's Association did not provide free flags as they did for SG50. Not everyone has a Shopee account to get one!"
He also hopes the flags can be 'innovated' to tolerate strong winds.
"For all these years, we have been blessed to have good wind facing the park, but the flags keep curling up."
