Birds, cages and cash stolen from Changi pet shop: 14-year-old among 4 arrested

A 27-year-old man and three teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, were arrested for their suspected involvement in housebreaking and theft at a Changi Road pet shop.

The police were alerted to the case on Sept 18 at about 3.45am. Birds, cages and cash amounting to about $7,200 were purportedly stolen.

Through ground enquires and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on Sept 19.

The birds and cages amounting to about $7,110 were recovered.

The man and two 17-year-olds were to be charged in court on Sept 21 with the offence of housebreaking and theft, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.

Police investigations are ongoing for the 14-year-old.

You are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while.
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises.
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTV to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
