After 50 years in the business, an oyster omelette stall in Jalan Besar will permanently close at the end of August.

Located in Berseh Food Centre, Lim's Fried Oyster has been operating since 1977.

Though the stall sold only oyster omelettes for 48 years, it has made a name for itself nationwide. It is open from Wednesdays to Sundays, from 6pm to midnight.

A Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the stall at 5pm on April 5 and found that the stall owners, both 73, had prepared ingredients in advance.

Mrs Lim revealed that someone ordered 30 oyster omelettes that day, so the stall had to open an hour early to make preparations.

There were already 30 patrons waiting in line when the couple opened the stall at 6.30pm that day.

"Now that everyone knows that I am going to close, they are coming one after another. Our business has been particularly good in the past two days," Mrs Lim added.

Explaining the closure, Mrs Lim said she feels she should not wait until she has health problems to retire. With the hawker centre's upcoming renovation in September, she decided to just close shop for good.

She shared: "We would often return home at 4am or 5am, fall asleep at 8am and get up at 4pm to prepare for the opening of the stall."

One diner, Ms Chen, said that she came down specifically to try Lim's Fried Oyster after hearing about its impending closure through social media.

The 30-year-old added: "I have always loved fried oysters ever since I was a child, so I came to queue at 6pm. After waiting for 30 minutes, I finally got to try it. It was really delicious and worth it."

Although she is sad about the closure, she is also happy that Mr and Mrs Lim can retire in good health.
